It started with the bread.
I became known for my dinner rolls and soon had regular holiday “orders” from friends and family. When I was laid off with half of the country recently, I decided to try something new and started selling bread and cookies at local farmer'’ markets and events.
Quiche, pastries, bundt cakes, chicken salad, and pimento cheese soon joined my table, and with the emotional and financial support of my ever-patient husband, Gingham Bakehouse went from farmer's markets to a brick-and-mortar location.
We can still be found at Shore Drive Farmer's Markets every Saturday, and in ICC Building 18 off North Center Drive, Mondays through Fridays!
At Gingham Bakehouse, we serve Southern charm with a side of sass and a sprinkle of the delightfully strange. Our locally roasted coffee will wake your soul, our from-scratch pastries might make you cry happy tears, and our all-day breakfast and lunch menus don’t believe in rules—or clocks. Think biscuits with attitude, lattes with flair, and a vibe that’s equal parts cozy kitchen and whimsical fever dream. We’re the little cafe with big flavor and a bigger personality.
Southern Charm — Weird Vibes — Great Food.
Meet Me at the Market
We started at farmers’ markets, and we keep doing them! It’s important to C.J. that we remain a part of the community. We’ve built friendships with customers and fellow vendors at these markets, so we plan to keep this going for a long time.
Check our calendar to see what’s going on around Hampton Roads and at the Bakehouse!
